New York Lighting Excellence
New York Lighting Excellence is a market transformation project conducted by the Lighting Research Center and sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
The objectives of this program are:
- To encourage and support New York manufacturers' efforts to design and commercialize energy-efficient lighting products that equal and exceed Energy Star and other high performance specifications.
- To support demonstration projects that provide opportunities to showcase innovative energy-efficient lighting applications.
- To make the results of the demonstration projects available to a wide audience.

Decision Makers in New York Aim for Energy Efficiency and Better Quality Lighting in Public Sector Buildings

LRC Services Provided Free of Charge
- Technical assistance in the form of consulting sessions, prototype testing or focus group sessions to small and medium-sized manufacturers in New York State to improve the quality of energy efficiency of New York products. Up to five days of technical assistance is available on a first come, first serve basis without charge to manufacturers in New York State. Preference will be given to companies that are willing to co-fund the project or multiple companies having similar requirements. Services must be arranged in advance and with the agreement of both parties.
- Design assistance on public sector lighting projects to promote day-lighting and energy-efficient lighting in New York State buildings.

About the LRC
The Lighting Research Center of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is the world's largest university-based facility devoted entirely to lighting research and education. The mission of the center is to advance the effective use of light and thereby to create a legacy of positive change for society and the environment.
The facility includes 27,000 square feet of laboratories, offices and demonstration areas. The laboratories millions of dollars worth of lighting evaluation, testing, and other scientific equipment. The center's Resource Collection contains manufacturers' product literature, books, journals and videotapes on lihgting, and software for lighting design and analysis. Lighting Research Center publications include Specifier Reports and Lighting Answers from the National Lighting Product Information Program, Portfolio and Snapshots from the Demonstration and Evaluation of Lighting Technologies and Applications Program, and books such as The Lighting Pattern Book for Homes and The Outdoor Lighting Pattern Book.
